I saw a Camaro and a Nova parked beside each other yesterday and the mirrors looked identical. Can't see what I am missing.
Did you look at the gasket? Originals on 68/69 Camaro's had the script and very difficult to find. Mirrors might be same but are the gaskets on survivors?

Chick, not enough of the gasket was showing to see it like you guys have pictured. My question is why would the gasket be specific to Camaro if the mirrors are the same? I THINK both mirrors were flat on the bottom.

Good points! Consistency was not abundant back then. Examples like camaro by chevrolet part #'s different from deck lid to header panel. Points out how one design group over at one place did something different than at another location even though it was all chevrolet. I checked ou 69 L78 Nova we purchased new with its mirror never been off car. As you pointed out the mirror base fits nicely within the gaskets lip so nothing there to see but the 69 Nova AIM states gasket part # is 3874250 whereas the 68/69 Camaro mirror gasket is #3927398. I measured an original factory installed #3927398 we have and it measured 4.787" and measuring our 69 Nova #3874250 gasket on the car it was 4.780". Technically no difference in gasket length. Next up the mirror, different part #'s so is the base on the 69 Nova mirror #3909197 longer in length than a camaro's #3914752? Now it appears if you went to Chevrolet parts you would receive the generic gasket #3874250. I'm thinking or assuming the #3927398 Camaro script gasket might have only been used at the assembly plant, hence the difficult time to find one.

Thank you, NOW I understand. As a machinist I worked in a shop that did work for a world wide corp. I remember parts from one division being identical or slightly different from a part from another division. Double design, double engineering, double testing, quoting, etc. etc. If they had shared info it would have been MUCH cheaper.

In searching for a camaro script gasket, I talked to a guy who I thought had a 68 and asked him to remove the mirror in hopes of finding a gasket with the script. He did so and low and behold.. camaro script. I then found out that the car was in fact an 01B 67. I looked at the TT and its good. Mirror is a 67 round. Car is a rusty mess and the mirror shows a good parting line. Based on the cars condition i think the mirror is original. Are the cast bases on 67-69 the same through those years and the only change came to the actual square mirror itself?
