Original cowl hood photos needed
« on: October 16, 2023, 03:31:17 PM »
We need pics of original cowl hoods without the underhood insulation attached.

William has identified an two types, an early design and a second design. The changes are to the under structure.

If you can post good clear pics or send directly to me, we would appreciate it. The front half of the hood is the most important to highlight.

Thanks in advance. It is very hard to find good clear pics.

If I'm not mistaken, the structure thing happened on SS hoods also Warren & I were going to figure out how to trade hoods before he passed. Might've happened on flat hood also....Joe

There are structural differences on most of the hoods.  In this case the change is noticeable on the front 1/4 of the hood.

Bryon,

I've got 4, 2 NOS and 2 earlier used (which unfortunately have insulation attached, one on the Pace Car and one on my '68 Z). the NOS ones are still in the boxes, dated April '92 if they will be of any benefit. I also have 2 early SS hoods w/o insulation if they are needed. I'll be glad to take pics if they can help -

Regards,
Steve

If it would help, I have a cowl hood on my car that I purchased new, in primer, that has the original GM Parts sticker still on it, last time I looked before covering the car for the winter last November.  I bought this Parts Dept. hood from a private owner back in the 1980/81 timeframe to replace my '69 Z's flat hood.  Just how old this hood was when I bought it is unknown.  I never procured/attached the matching underhood insulation and would be happy to take and post whatever photos of it are desired -- please let me know if this would help and I'll do that.

I don't believe I have any pictures of my cowl induction hood on my 05A Norwood build 1969 Z28 during the restoration without the hood insulation.

Just a thought...as you do this research, original hoods (not only cowl hoods) installed at the assembly plant are date coded in the outside vertical flange surface, in the rear driver's side corner. My hood is stamped "18" which is the 18th week in 1969, which was from April 28 - May 4, 1969.

I am not at home at the moment to post a picture of the hood date code but will do that if it helps!
