Intro - 1969 RS/SS 396/350 Camaro Convertible
« on: March 07, 2023, 11:07:56 PM »
Hi all - I have been a user of CRG for a while now but finally have a 1969 RS/SS parked in the garage so I wanted to say hi and introduce her. It's a great starting point but 30 year old restoration so I want to bring her back to life like she deserves. Anyway, I'm beyond excited and sure to have questions along the way so I wanted to say hi and share some pictures.

@Chuck-68-Cam Thank you! Yes, all original engine, trans, and rear end with Protect-O-Plate and lots of docs. I purchased form the son of the original owners.

As for the Z28 stripes, apparently the original buyer loved the look so had the dealer put on the cowl hood and add stripes. Her son (who sold me the car) restored the car in 1991-1993 and decided to keep them as tribute to his mom so that's why it's got the hockey stick stripes as well as the Z28 stripes.

When you have a chance please post up photos or you can send them to my email below.  Just put the vin in the subject line.  All photos are kept private and confidential if that is a concern.  Cool car and story.

Such  a cool car, looks likely dent free, all I can say is maybe get some 2" pink board at homedepot and get that sitting against the drivers door, as I see a sad dent from that 4 door in your future in that garage.  Lucky to have a great color combo car.

Thanks for the notes and all the love!

@cook_dw yes I will, I need to get her out and get some better pictures but it arrived with a dead battery from transport this past Sunday so have had to get that sorted and want to get all fluids changed for piece of mind but weather has been an issue here in Colorado.

@black69 yes you're right and it's actually going to another garage as to not get dinged next week. But good call on the pink board, definitely worth keeping around anyway!

After I get it in a good driving spot my next project will be fixing the convertible top pump which failed during the buying inspection and replacing drivers-side rear quarter glass as that shattered with the seller trying to help pull it up (car has power windows - will probably end up replacing all 4 motors there at some point too).

Windows - motors are probably fine, the grease is probably a solid.

Wonder how old license frame is? I have an identical one. Similar, yet different, available, still, today.

Thanks Curt! I will certainly try that first and see how it works!

The painter replaced the window motors in my Firebird while the car was apart with repop s . Wished he had not done it. Much slower than the originals.

Thanks for letting me know! honestly I would have assumed the reproductions would work better and faster than the originals. Sorry you had to learn the hard way but appreciate you sharing your experience!
