Hi David finding a orginal chrome one in very good condiction after 50 plus years will be hard to find. I just found a base and lid ( painted ) for 50.00, the chrome shop wants 150.00 to rechrome after I sand the paint off. The picture is not my car it's for reference. Vince

Yes Vince that's the one I need. I will look for a black one also but do not trust ant chrome shops near me , I have already been ripped off when they could not do my original one correctly.
Any chrome shops anyone could recommend? Is Ebay the best bet for locating a black one? Thanks

Thanks Jim, I am the second owner of my 69 SS and it looks just like the pic. Not many around that are stock as they came.

I found my base and lid 2 weeks ago at Old Car Parts in Portland, Oregon. Pacific Northwest Plating is doing the Plating.Vince

I used Klean Strip paint remover if you use this, use it outside only it will take your breath away, very strong. You might PM a member here z28z11 (Steve ) he restores these air cleaners. Vince

I’m not trying to push Classic’s offering, but take a look at KW461 from the current catalog - I severely doubt you could source an OE painted lid and chrome it for this price. Inexpensive - and appears correct. Just a suggestion -

Thanks Steve but it doesn't have the detailed circle groove about half way out from the center.

Hard to tell from the picture if it has the groove, but I THINK THIS ONE may be the one you're looking for. (Out of stock but do an ebay search for 1971 Corvette air cleaner lid. Example HERE)

Also, HERE'S an original to compare with.

Doing more research, it appears the 1971 CHEVELLE has the same basic lid but black instead of chrome.

Correct - OE is decidedly different. Automatic cleaners are easy to find, if you’re lucky you can locate a good donor. Aircraft stripper works quickly, followed by beading if you have any scale. Rusty parts will require a lot more work in the plating process that might affect the final appearance in terms of heavier copper coat vs. an OE chrome finish (most plate shops offer “show” vs. “OE” chrome).
Good luck and let us know how you come out -
