Panther concept - 4 headlights

Saw these pics on one of the Camaro Facebook pages.

It looks like the Night Janitor took a Sharpie and added the Hood Trim in the middle of the Shift,,,,,,,,
Cool photo.

At this point  - still just a concept car.  I don’t know the date but guessing early 1966.

I believe those photos were also in the "The Great Camaro" book by Michael Lamm which I'm sure were pulled from Chevrolet archives.  I have the book and could scan in the pages if interested.  Photo pulled from an eBay ad.

Your memory is correct.  That picture appears on page 21.  The caption states, "'Oil-cooler' hood louvers for SS were originally intended to be functional, but water leaked in.  Early RS grill beamed lights directly through grids."

I have that book and probably just about every Camaro book with data in it. I will look later to see if I can add any more information.

Surprised no one mentioned how far apart the louvers are. I kinda like it. Michael's book is great!

It had to do with federal regulations. It wasn't until the mid 70's that rectangular headlights were approved for production use. I think it was an effort to get all manufacturers on the same page for US use.
