Searching for information about 67 Camaro raced in Europe
« on: February 14, 2023, 02:57:48 PM »
My 67 has no paper trail. I bought it in Mainz Germany from a defunked race team Whos owner was moving to the US. I bought it January 28th 1986. The day the Challenger was lost. The story is that it worked as a race car from August 67 till just before I bought it but lay in disrepair till I saved it from the crusher. I will list some pictures of the modifications done to the car. Any information will be greatly appreciated.
The car is a 1968 L30M20 shipped to Germany through Rosenthal Chevrolet in Arlington VA. It was one of two cars the team owned.
The modifications were in the brakes, suspension, dash, and of course a cage was installed. Some well thought out, some not so much.
The chassis (vin) number is 124377N238556, the other car was 124377N247353. The numbers are stamped on the German Import tag as well as two places mechanically stamped into the sub frame. On the right side.

Front Brake modification. The front calipers had the top retaining tab milled off, and holes drilled to pin the larger Corvette pads into the Camaro 4 piston calipers.

A metal patch was welded to both sides of the frame  in front of the A-frame.

The modification can clearly be seen here after the frame was reconditioned.

The rear drums were modified for cooling. The rear of the housing was cur and opened and a wing was added to pull air into the housing.

In your first post you say my '67, but in the second paragraph you say it's a '68 L30/M20, in the photos it has a '67 grill and vent

windows, race cars were modified a lot.  am I missing something here ?

Interesting history on this car, do you have any info on who the driver/drivers  was/were might help ? or events the car was in, I

see you had an image of a grill badge for the Wiesbaden Rallye 1967, was it in this event ? I am sure you have searched the net as

well. I have some images of '67 & '68 Camaros raced in Europe I've found over the years, a number unidentified.

Jon Mello, moderator here is really a good source of info, and has a lot of contacts.

I'm sure others will chime in.

I mistyped the 68 but by the time I caught it I couldn’t correct it. It is all 1967. This is why I included the paperwork. When I bought it I was in the service in a Combat Communications unit so I immediately was off for months in one of the Happiest Places on earth!(NOT) by the time I was back the last owner was long gone. I’ve tried to search him here in recent years with no success.

The modification may not identify the car, but if we could match it to a picture from the time I would at least have a direction to go.
