Looking for suggestions on new carb to replace Quadrajet

I have a 67 SS350 4 speed that's pretty much a stock restoration.  The quadrajet is in bad shape and the carb shop says it's not worth rebuilding.  I'm considering getting something new to replace it.  I want to drive the car so I'm looking for something that would just replace the quadrajet.

I've seen some new replacements that sell for around $220 that look pretty cheap.  Not leaning towards that.  I may go for another rebuilt quadrajet but for now I'm considering my options.

I'm wondering what brands and models others are using for an otherwise stock setup.  Currently using the Qjet 7027203.

The throttle shaft is typically the issue because they wear out. I would lean towards getting that one rebuilt or gotta rebuilt matching one. Keep it simple.

Find another carb shop! Especially if it's your original carb. I'd say 90 percent of "junk" can still be restored. I'd take Jim's advise and call Eric. Let HIM make the final determination. He's been doing this for a million years and knows what he's doing.

For a stock engine, the Quadrajet is a really, really good carb.  I'd agree with others and I'd want someone with a lot of Quadrajet experience to tell me it's junk before I tossed it.

I think the shop is good.  They've done a crapload of quadrajets and came highly recommended. 

I know the carb needs the brass sleeves but he says it has other internal issues as well.  He's going to send me pictures so I can see exactly what he's talking about. 


I asked them to try to make this carb work. Finding another one might take awhile.  Meanwhile, I'll be on the lookout for another quadrajet that matches my car.

I agree with the other comments...keep the QJ! Even IF you have to replace it with another one. The QJ is one of the best OEM carbs ever made.

Edelbrock use to sell NEW Quadrajet carbs a few years back.  I have one that I use instead of my restored 7029202, and its perfect.  Just seal-off the bottom well plugs and you'll be good for a long time.  Check Summit / Jegs.....

Very Common Carb: 7027203 1st type & 7027213 2nd type.

I wish they were common - trying to find either as a core is tougher than you would think. Best bet would be to save your original, find a later Quad and rebuild it to drive. If you really want to shed the 7027203, send me a PM - lol.

The HOLLEY 6210 is a direct replacement for the Rochester and you can still get them new. I've run them on small blocks and even 396's and 427's and they always perform flawlessly. They're not cheap, but they're well worth the money. They're also available "factory refurbished", but they seem to be out of them at the time. You can also find them on ebay for a lot less, but usually needing to be rebuilt. The kit is around $50 but they're EASY to rebuild.

I would definitely stick with the Q-Jet.  The rebuilt original Q-Jet on my 68 RS L30/M20 works perfectly.  Check with Lars (lives on Corvetteforum).  He is the guru of Q-Jets and does rebuilds as a service to our hobby.  He has lots of very detailed technical papers on carbs and tuning.  Lars <v8fastcars@msn.com>
