1100750 alternator build date
« on: August 08, 2022, 05:56:15 AM »
I am looking for a 61 amp alternator for a 1966 first week of November built Camaro with AC. I see a fair amount of rebuildable cores dated 6 (1966) from January to June then none until end of November. I was thinking 2-3 month build date prior to November 1966 is what I need.
Any idea if these alternators were only built  certain months of 1966?

I can't answer the build cycle of alternators in 1967, but I happen to have an 11A C60 car that pulled the 61A alternator.  Interestingly, mine is a Y car from Van Nuys, too. However, mine didn't get the RS package and mine is Y-Y.  Anyway, my alternator is stamped as such:

Top Stamp:
1100750     61A
6K21     12V NEG

6K21 = 1966, October, 21

So, if our cars were built the same week in the same plant, then I'd suppose you'd want an alternator stamped near the date of mine above.

I don't know much about the stamps on the back, but ... On the back, there is a stamp for "DELCO - REMY" and then a circle with these numbers stacked inside:

423
6119
466

Hope this helps a tad.

Your alternator date should be based on the engine assembly date, not the car assembly date.  It was installed at the engine assemble plant, not the car assembly plant.

There do seem to be more 1967 750s around/available than 1966, especially 7A and 7Bs.

That is not correct.

Alternators were installed on the engine dress line at the car/truck assembly plants..

http://www.camaros.org/enginedress.shtml

"The starter and its brace and battery ground cable came next, followed by the coil bracket, coil, and spark plug wire supports. The crank pulley, water pump pulley, fan and spacer (or fan and clutch), and the alternator and its mounting bracket and adjusting brace came next, followed by installing and tensioning the fan belt. A.I.R. pumps and air manifolds, valves, and hoses, A/C compressors and power steering pumps and hoses and their pulleys and belts and the radiator hoses were also installed at this point. Spark plug boot heat shields and plug wires and retainers were then installed, and engine mounts were assembled after the plug wires were installed."

Thank you all. It confirms that I should have an alternator dated end of October 1966 and helps me greatly. I'll continue my search. Not a huge issue as the car is running currently with an aftermarket alternator, but having the more correct one would be ideal.
