Sale on Bring a Trailer
« on: July 19, 2022, 12:20:48 PM »
Can you guys provide some thoughts on the 1969 Z28 that sold for $60,500 on Bring a Trailer yesterday?  Is the result due to lack of provenance?

Read the comments.

Warranty engine, non-OE trans, wrong wheels, no AIR, wrong manifolds, generic carb, added ZL2 & spoiler, stripes done wrong. POP looks fishy to me, like it was artificially aged.

Tough crowd out there.

Would have been nice to see crayon markings behind the seat, or the reinforcement plate for the exhaust. In the end without the original motor, or Trans there was little to go off of.

I wouldn't run to the bank just because a '69 has the reinforcing plate on the rear frame rail. It's been reproduced [poorly]; just saw one on an alleged Z/28 a few weeks ago. Also seen on all SS coupes and those built with N10.

Since every '69 coupe has one inside the RH frame rail, not hard to find if you need one.

True. who said anything about running to the bank?? 😆
I wouldn't use that as the only means to identify a Z, because the availability and the SS did have it, but if I was selling a Z that was questioned I would want to provide all the information I could. Just like the crayon markings, it would have helped to have seen them, but it is the totality of all the info that helps get someone to better conclusions.

I am surprised this car got a certified, and the reasoning was the exhaust plate and engine perches it seems:https://bringatrailer.com/listing/1969-chevrolet-camaro-180/

On the Silver car
Also has a restamped alternator amongst all the other issues. The BU rear is evidence but not enough to confirm.

On the black car 124379N543653 That thing has alot of issues. BUT Jerry says - All indications are this vehicle was either an L48 SS350 or Z28 Camaro when it was delivered new. The tail pipe adapter plate on the left side rear frame rail and the Muncie speedometer hole in the firewall led me to this conclusion.

In the report he doesnt certify it as anything conclusive, but the certificate of authenticity says 1969 Camaro RPO Z28. Not sure why as that is very misleading.

Agree on the wording of the certificate.

The markings behind the seat are a clue but they can be faked.

Concerning the Black car, pic #63 (BAT) has a decal on top of air filter that states, "302 Turbo-Fire CROSSRAM 2X4 465 HORSEPOWER"...any thoughts?

Not from Chevrolet. There never was a horsepower rating on a cross-ram engine.

And don't believe what you may read about the Hemi 302. It never even equaled the power of a production based 302 built for racing.
