2022 Spring Carlisle
« on: April 27, 2022, 10:56:03 PM »
Anyone go to spring Carlisle this past weekend?  I went - was very disappointed....almost a total waste of time if you were looking for anything Camaro related......

A guy had a 69 AM/FM blue light stereo - looked like it was pulled out of a river - $400 - a rusted hulk.  Can't imagine what the electronics looked like inside.  Thing is - I almost went for it......

IMO, The days of decent finds are long last gone...

I was there Friday, significantly more people this spring verses last spring. I had a vendor bring some moldings up otherwise probably wouldn't have attended. (last set shipped were bent at 45 degree angle)I looked for 2 15x8 Cragars found nothing. I would agree seems to be getting difficult to find Camaro parts at Carlisle. I was looking for 2 15x8 Cragars found nothing. Small block Chevy parts were there in abundance though.

Deals are still out there you just have to look in unconventional ways and places than those of the past.  I have never been to Carlisle but swap meets in my area are hit and miss for me when it comes to finding deals anymore.  Although I usually do ok when selling as I am not looking to make a homerun on parts. I save those items for eBay.

Before I moved to SoCal 5 years ago, I was there every spring or fall….sometimes both since 1988. I bought my Camaro in 1986 and heard about Carlisle. cook-dw is spot on. If you know what you’re looking for, you might find it. I’ve scored some cool and rare stuff. 2 complete sets of fiber optic (albeit the back half wasn’t for Camaro) but there in repro now so the wait is over, dealer over the counter stuff and the always there guy who had a “pick your part” off the rusted beyond recognition 1st Gen. Who thought used seat belts, bolts, and trivial items would be so expensive now? Think outside the box going in. Your trusty 2 wheel dolly full of bungie cords and ready for the weather clothes will make it better. So if you’re looking to score used popular items, such as a front disc brake upgrade, seats, or anything to fill in the blanks, you should find it or or a connection to get it.  Remember this if nothing else—Used parts vendors do not want to take anything home. So do your homework. Whatever is $150 on EBay is a bargaining starting point around $100, and cash is king. Heavy items are a pain to move (please make me a reasonable offer so I can get rid of it). Remember, you can always walk away with your money…..to the next vendor, and go by on the way out to see if it’s still there. A day at Carlisle is better than a good day at work. JMHO.

I was there Wednesday and picked up a complete GM NOS exhaust system with hangers for a 69 Z/28.  I thought there was some Camaro stuff here and there, but that's me.

All of these were in the 90s and 2000s. Pretty much knew what I wanted and what I was willing to pay. Sometimes I would play broke and “borrow” money form my friend who I was there with me. I’m “short on cash”, but grovel and plead with my friend to lend me the money. “You’re buying me dinner tonight”. I agree he gets a steak of his choice, lobster tail, and all the beer he can drink. The vendor laughs, I get my part and move on. We do this routine several times and 30 feet later I give him his “borrowed money” back of he gives me mine. The best vendor spots are just piles of shit just laying on a tarp like garbage. Vendor doesn’t know or care. The keen eyes know.
Or “what is that”? clearly knowing exactly what it is and currently selling for. Sometimes the vendor has no clue. He’s just there to hang with his friends for a few days. He’s bought a vendor spot for the Winnebago, but lays stuff out to make it look like he’s selling.
