Does anyone have a 'Heater Delete' Z28 ??
« on: October 06, 2021, 12:04:47 PM »
I just read an article (an older article) from Old Cars Weekly on a '69 Z28 'Car of the Week' from 2014.

https://www.oldcarsweekly.com/features/car-week-1969-camaro-z28

In that article, it was mentioned that the heater could be 'deleted' ...   and it made me realize I'd never seen a Camaro without a heater.   Have any of you?   Do any of you own a Camaro with 'heater delete' from the factory?

I'm curious about what was used to block off the firewall openings, and the heater hose connections on the engine from the factory?

Only 1,134 units through Sept 1969, pretty rare….

I think I saw mention of a plate on the dash where the heater controls would've been...kind of like a car that wasn't ordered with a radio....Joe

C48 is heater and defroster credit. In most places only shows up for 1967, but at least one set of numbers shows the other years.

From the CRG options page “C48 - Heater and defroster credit. Defroster (and thus the heater) was federally mandated starting in 68. 68 production is export.”

I am guessing it’s only for exports in 69 as well but don’t know for sure.

Grumpy’s 67 L78 was apparently ordered heater delete, no radio and 4.56 gears. Had to be an interesting drive from the Tech Center back to PA in March of 67.

I do not believe everything I read in magazines. The pic seems to show the car with a heater.

One of the '69s ran through Mecum Indy last May, later on BAT. Did not make reserve. 124379L516909.

That car has a virtual twin I saw here in WI in the early '90s. Very close VINs. Both sold new in HI.

FMVSS 49 CFR § 571.103 - Standard No. 103; Windshield defrosting and defogging systems. Required for the 48 contiguous states. Probably all 1,134 were HI or export cars. I recall hearing of a Canadian C48 Z/28 T/A car. When we had ZL-1 #4, the owner drove to La Harpe IL to visit with Fred Gibb. Gibb wanted to order his 50 ZL-1s heater delete; no go.

Learning more and more about less and less...

While TDY Hawaii Pearl Harbor, I went to a December or Oct 2000 Indoor Car show at the Blaisdell Arena and the Hawaiian Camaro Club had a 1969 Lemans Blue L78 SS Coupe with Heater Delete. I think the owners name at the time was Dwayne or such. Kurt knew of the car and the condition was amazing nice of course I have no photos, bummer.

Agreed.

And I updated the Options sheet - it now says:
C48 - Heater and defroster credit.  Defroster (and thus the heater) was federally mandated starting in 68. 68 & 69 production is export / Hawaii. 69 total thru Sept 69.

Ive seen 2 in the Philippines with the covers still present. Was an odd site for sure. I would think that all of those cars were overseas too.
