Letter for month code DZ block
« on: September 26, 2021, 12:55:59 AM »
Has anyone ever seen a DZ block stamp with a letter K for the month? V1K. I don’t have a pic unfortunately. Puzzled.

Update. 386 block with a cast date of “1” or “I”.

Apparently not - crickets are ominous.

Best to post a pic of the stamping if you can - you'll get a lot more opinions as to authenticity.

I have not seen anything like that. Doubt it's original.

This is a 386 block. I’m not sure if the K is stamped over a 0,1 or 2. Or in place of. I’m pretty sure aside from this that the rest of the stamp is legit.

I think it's a restamp as the letter stamp appears to be deeper and more pronounced than all the other fonts and looks like it was added after the fact. Perhaps someone with too much knowledge thought they would try to Julian date the block with a letter stamp for the corresponding month. Too much knowledge perhaps (lol).

Also unclear as the pads painted and the broch marks are not visible.

If it was a restamp it was likely done when the car was restored. Pre-1994. But other than the K which is suspect I think the rest of the stamp looks correct. Am I way off?

Everything but the "K" looks correct, or at least believable. The "K" is defintely not sharp-faced as the other stampings, had to be after the original stamping was produced, or substituted. It is in alignment with the balance of the stamping, correct size, it just looks goofy. Need to strip the paint and look at the deck surface to see if it's been monkeyed with - either way, somebody messed it up to the point where it can't really be trusted anymore. And it will be difficult to proove validity.

Pretty sure it's a real stamp, V1119DZ, with the K added for some reason....
