Hey Mike -

I've the exact same "R-I" embossed, upside down on my transmission case also!  It's in a slightly different location, about 10 o'clock as compared to the transmission fill plug (with the fill plug being the center of the clock).  How about anybody else?

I've got one "010" , one "660" and two "661" cases sitting out of cars rigth now...I'll take a look later today and see what I have on mine.

The inspection stamp makes sense...especially when one knows that it is not a "C" but a square with one side missing

It's not an inspection stamp. The inspection stamp is located on top of the trans.

This was in the gang stamp and there's only one symbol in 68.
In 67, some trans have a mini-7 after the code.

I have not been able to discern a pattern, yet.....

Could it be a mark to determine the shift??  Were the transmissions assembled in shifts??

OK, looked at the trannys today

010 = no R-I
660 = has  R-I
661's (x 2) = no R-I

I took pictures if anyone wishes to see.  there are other markings on the 661's and the 010...

So far, 3 cases in a row, the "R-I" has appeared on only the 660 cases.   Maybe it stands for Race-Inspired!   :D

I took pictures if anyone wishes to see.

Flowjoe -

I'd love to see your photos if you could post or email them.  Thanks in advance.

It would appear that this car is for sale on eBay right now. 11 years or so later, WOW!! Stamp looks too high up on the block, like it was re-stamped with the heads off??  Danny
