1967
Indianapolis 500
Probably the most famous and infamous person to win a brand new Camaro in 1967 was A.J. Foyt when he won the 51st International 500 Mile Sweepstakes held at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway in Speedway, Indiana, over two days, Tuesday May 30 and Wednesday May 31, 1967. Historically, the winner of the event has been given one of the pace cars as part of their winnings at the Victory Dinner held the day after the race. Since the race was postponed by weather and finished the day after, the Victory Dinner for 1967 was held the night the race was finished. Unfortunately for Chevrolet, Foyt was a contracted Ford race driver and he basically refused to accept the Camaro as it was given to him. Read the articles to see what happened next.
