Short Spoiler Long Stud vs. Long Spoiler Long Stud
« on: March 10, 2021, 11:37:33 PM »
I'm trying to determine if the 68 short spoiler #3916633 all had a long stud with what JohnZ stated the plant called a "dog point" meaning the end of the long stud was undercut at end and the long 69 #3949798 spoiler came equipped with a long stud threaded to the end.

Can you please open those trunk lids and check configuration on that long spoiler stud? Undercut on end or threaded to stud end?
Thanks everyone,

Chick

Thanks Jim and Joe! Yes Joe that helps in more ways than just the dog point long studs. You can really note the glue residue for the posi label.

Chick. That's not the original sticker. the original was a mess so when I had the car painted I recreated the mess with the glue. Not bad eh?...Joe

Joe, I HOPE the runs were there and I am not assuming they were - so I commend you on reproducing the runs in the paint... most lack the nerve to FAITHFULLY stick to how it was from the factory, especially flaws likw runs.

Here is a photo of a early LA car 09B - it has the narrow or "short" spoiler, in fact so early it has the 68 style stripes on the deck lid -
IT appears to have a dog point stud.

Where is everyone LOL......
I'm confident the short spoilers had the undercut on the end of the long stud (called dog point per Johnz) but can we have some pics of different time periods of the long 69 spoiler? Trying to determine if they were all threaded to end of long stud.
Greatly appreciated!

My late '69 Z28 - 09C - 18Sep69 production - with std long '69 spoiler has what appears to be studs that are not 'dog point'...

Gary does your stud have a built in washer on the short side of the thread that screw into the spoiler .

Yes, they do.  When I purchased my car, there was water coming into the trunk, and after a while I figured out that it coming in around one of the spoiler mounting holes (a stud had broken off).   I had a pretty difficult time finding a replacement stud and nut (a type of shoulder nut).   Here are photos showing both a short and long spoiler stud and the nuts, and looking at the first photo, it does appear that there's a 'slight dog-point' tip on the studs.
