For me, it was kind of the opposite feeling with regards whipping out the old dwell meter (I’ve had since the early ‘70’s). With GM/Chevy putting the distributor in the back of the engine where accessibility is a real issue, especially as you get older, changing points/condenser by either laying across the fender or pulling the distributor became a “been there, done that” situation. At this point, I want reliability and as much as possible and to get in the car, turn the key, and ride; other routine maintenance items not withstanding.
Converting to electronic and removing mechanical points was right up there with swapping out the original voltage regulator with an electronic version - just swapped the cover off of my old regulator to keep the look original. Also RFI issues are minimized to some degree by making these conversions. Wasn’t a real issue for me but it can be.
