Another Black 69 Z28
« on: February 12, 2021, 09:12:06 PM »
There sure seems to be a rash of black  69 Z28's popping up lately. Thoughts on this one?

Looks like 10D car with late September DZ block.

The air cleaner seal is not installed correctly that's for sure.

VIN : 124379N703782

There will be a real black 1969 Z28 coming up for sale in auction in the near future. And it has RED interior. Possibly one of the most highly desired combinations.

I don’t like the tag.
No reason to. Repro.

I have photos of two other V0923DZ stamps. This one does not match.

There was a recent case where it was found that the seller had removed the trim tag from a 1969 Z28 and changed the tag to show that the exterior color was black:

http://www.vintageautomotive.net/?tag=trim-tag

Although I didn't start working at GMAD Van Nuys until we were building the second generation Camaros and Firebirds, I can't recall a time when someone had to replace a trim tag.  I actually had the opportunity to make a few replacement VIN tags that were damaged in the assembly plant, but we would only do so if we were given the original VIN tag first as we had to account for each tag and send the damaged tag back to GM in Detroit.

Yes. That is a true story. I know some of the people involved.

So the moral of the story is - do not mess with trim tags! And if you change one, expect someone to take you to court!!

I know a lot of people don’t like Burnished Brown, but with white stripes I REALLY like it!

The subject car from the OP is indeed beautiful, but the repro tag would put me off for good.

I think if you check paint codes at cruise ins you might find one under a respray. I look at codes on red or black cars just to see if it is the factory color. Many are not and the owners do not even know what the paint codes mean. I kind of like bb myself. Saw Buddy,s car at a Raliegh NC show years ago and it just stuck.

Good idea.

There was a BB 1969 SS 350 4 speed Nova that I looked at maybe 18 or so years ago. No engine or trans but the 12 bolt was there and the flies, trunk and body were very solid. Had gone to look at a Chevelle. The Chevelle was not in acceptable condition in my opinion, and the guy wouldn’t sell the Nova.

The Black 69 Z28 from post #5

Engine: V0331DZ assembly date, “618” block, cast C219, special performance 302-290 hp V-8, original engine to vehicle

Transmission: P9D08A assm date, #3925660 case, vin stamped 19N628593, correct replacement Muncie 4-spd M20
transmission, not original to vehicle

Rear Axle: BV0225G1 assm date, 12-bolt rear axle, positract 4.10 ratio, casting date A39, #860NF, original axle to vehicle

Documentation: None, an NCRS shipping data report is recommended for this vehicle

Paint Condition: Very good, repainted in the original Tuxedo black color with white Z28 stripes, nice attention to detail

Interior Condition: Very good, new reproduction interior, red standard buckets with console & gauges

Engine Bay: Very good, minor issue with service replacement parts, see page two of this report

Under Carriage: Very good, the original floors were replaced, professional installation, no drain plugs in floor pans

Doc

I took out the wrong VIN and reformatted a bit.
