1969 valance panel painting
« on: November 22, 2020, 11:59:52 AM »
James (Firstgenaddict) posted this about a picture I posted on Yenko. Thank you James for bringing it to my attention.

In reference to the bracket shown resting on the roll of Blue shop towels (spot welded to the lower valence in the center)
There is a painting note in the AIM UPC 11/13 SHEET B6. (MASK BRACKET WHEN PAINTING VALENCE PANEL) Pretty sure the bracket should be black flow coat primer.

I had also read this in the AIM but never could find any cars with original paint to support this so I left it alone. Was this something that happens real early & was dropped or what do other know? I'm trying to do this car as correct as I can without creating a trailer queen. Thank you, Joe

My X77 was painted in the '70s, but not disassembled to do so. I looked on both sides of the bracket on mine, it appears to be Le Mans blue both sides, with the original chalk markings inside of the fender extensions, so I believe the panel with extensions is how it left Norwood on the car. Car is an 01C build, owned since early 1973.

Steve

Joe...checked mine, but inconclusive due to patina. In general, there is hardly any body colour on the inside of any front end panels on my car - maybe a LOS detail - so all I can say is, that part of the bracket has a finish consistent with the inside of header, valance, fenders etc.

Here is a photo of Dave Beem's original paint YENKO - the bracket appears to be visible and yellow in the grille teeth. I sent him a text asking to confirm on the Yenko and also on his white over red late March car.

That's a good thought. My friends LA 02B is car color. The 12k NOR 05A 375hp is car color & I just picked up an original paint valance & no signs of black. It has a run number of 42....Joe

I'm glad we have that out of the way, the L78 Pacer I am doing now will have it body color.
