69 convertible exhaust
« on: October 26, 2020, 01:36:34 PM »
I have a 69 convertible with L65. It’s a very original car. It currently has dual exhaust with a transverse muffler with what appear to be correct chrome tips. Car was delivered in May 69.  From what I’ve read it shouldn’t have a dual exhaust because it’s not an SS and doesn’t have N10 on the window sticker. Is there any way this car could have come with a dual exhaust?

Ed, any 69 Camaro could be ordered with dual exhaust, not only SS's.  But if your car (from the window sticker) did not have N10 ordered, it might have been a dealer add on.

Thanks. I’ve been reading as much as I can on this. It’s my understanding that if it came from the factory with dual exhaust there should be an added small panel welded where the hanger would go along the driver side rear rail.  I don’t have my car at my house today so I won’t be able to check it till tomorrow.

Converts had heavier frame rails and did not receive the reinforcement plate.

Are you certain the window sticker is real?

Here’s the window sticker. I bought car from original family so I believe it’s real.

Yup, real. Grabbed a copy when it was for sale.

Your car was built approximately 12 days prior to the implemetation of chrome tail pipes in production.

Thanks William. So exhaust isn’t original as it has chrome tail pipes. I should get my car back tomorrow and will look at the way the exhaust is hooked up. Then I need to decide if I should get the Gardner exhaust with or without the chrome tips. Have you seen both and do you have a preference?

I like the chrome; put them on an 02B '69 Z/28. Not concerned about technical correctness.

Thanks. That’s the direction I was leaning. The only company I’ve found that has them is Gardner. Do you know of any others?

You can get them chromed but they won't stay put. Now I know why Chevy went to the 2-pc design.
