Rochester 7029207 4 bbl date coding is??
« on: September 05, 2020, 08:06:06 PM »
Good afternoon gentlemen!!

Can you figure out for me the date coding on the above 1969 Carb??   Coding near the above number reads   1494.  I was Googling around re. the carb number and I came across the same carb number with a date code of 2794.  Company selling - describing unit  7029207 is saying that the date code
breaks down as (279th day of 1969.  Where does the number 4 come into play on the coding of 279 4   ??

If this was a Holley,  the coded date would break down as,   279th day of either 1974 or 1984.

This is a big carb re-building company with a 99.5 positive feedback rate with many Rochesters up on Ebay and I really do not think they would make a mistake
in the production year..

What does the number 4 in the date coding mean to you guys??

Thanks in advance
Ted

1969 350 hp/350 ci 4-speed Corvettes came with that same 7029207 quadrajet, although I'm not remembering the date coding scheme...

Good morning gentlemen -  Kurt S and Gary
I would hope this question does not spoil your morning but, what dah heck eh??  No question is a stupid question... as the saying goes.

Why would GM date code the 1969 unit to either a 74 or 84 year?  Were they (GM) storing 69 Rochester carbs in hopes that someone in future  would want to purchase the carburetor, and at that  time,  the current codes such as line, numerical day, and abbreviated year would be applied to the '69 Rochester??

Have a good day laddies.  Up here in Montreal it is sunny and 57 degrees F.

Take care!
Ted

The answer is this Opelitis..

GM did NOT date code it, the manufacturer date coded it when it was manufactured (for their own internal purposes of quality control, etc).

If you have a '69 Rochester carb (or most any other part) which was installed on a '69 model year auto, then it will be date coded per when it was manufactured.

Fortunately (for most people), where there is sufficient demand, the manufacturers continue making the parts (and date code them the date they were made).  Your carburetor with the later date code was most likely made in 1974 as a replacement/maintenance part for the original cars that used them.
