'69 Small Block Fan Shroud Restoration?
« on: August 24, 2020, 06:04:12 PM »
Unfortunately (assuming it's not factory graffiti), someone scratched "302" onto the top of the fan shroud.  It's the original to the car (PN 3938615).   Other than the 302 marking, it's in good shape.    Any suggestions if this is repairable?   I'm thinking to just sand it down and buff it out...are there any other techniques I could use to remove the "302" and restore the ABS material?

I'd be wary of any process (like sanding) that would remove the surrounding finish. Might be better off looking at a product that would just darken the scratches and reduce their visual contrast; I had great results with 303 Aerospace Protectant on some sun-cracked and faded A-pillar pads, they're obviously not the same material as a shroud, but worth a try. Also might try black shoe polish on a rag? Otherwise I'd just live with it, as an original part of your car with character!
