Rochester 4bbl numbers
« on: July 31, 2020, 10:33:18 PM »
7029202  vs  29202 carburetor numbers.     Why the missing numerics ( 70 ) on the second carb??
Thanks gentlemen.

Look on the side of the carb and see if it's cast with a "Rochester by Carter" insignia - I've seen the licensed Rochester Products Quadrajets built by Carter carry a 5 digit stamping before. I'll see if I can dig up an example in the (garage) pile to post - I know there's one there somewhere.

"Not all Rochester carburetors have the "standard" seven-digit identification code. Although uncommon, original carburetors have been observed with the first two numbers ("70") omitted."

Good morning gentlemen!!
I have a few of these 5 numbered carbs.  Why were some of them 5 numbers and the rest  the usual seven number 4 bbl carbs?  Are the 5 numbered units
more valuable or are they all of equal value to the 7 numbered carbs?
From what I have here, it is the 1967 to 1969 Rochester 4 barrel units. Nothing after '69 as far as I can see.
Thanks in advance!
Ted

Looks like Oldsmobile in the late 60s - specifically 69' also had 5 numbered Rochester 4 bbl carbs during the 1st quarter of 1969.  Wonder why they had to step up production and bring in the Carter corporation who normally produced carbies for Chryco ?  Maybe because of the ongoing VietNam war ???

Good afternoon gentlemen!    Cannot see any Carter reference markings on the 2902 at all.    I do see ' Rochester Quadrajet'   then to the left vertically is
2902  DH  0989 .   Again I do not see Carter on the unit but, I do see Rochester with Quadrajet below it.
