New to this site!
« on: March 31, 2007, 02:54:55 AM »
Hi, new to this site, having owned this `69 RS/SS since the mid eighties, its getting time to restore it, most everything on it is original except carb, water pump, alternator,  and maybe distributor, trim tag as follows
ST69  12437LOS126238
trim 725        57E pnt
10B              J100

HB stamped 350, can`t tell whether its a 386 or 388 block, turbo 350, 12 bolt BL axle. All the usual SS items are there. Can you guys explane what the J100 code is, and if Kurt wants this in the data base, to let me know.     Rich

Rich,
Your car is already there (from a post you made on camaros.net). :)
Can you post or email me the VIN, the trans code, and the rest of the axle code?

Thanks!!
Kurt

ST69  12437LOS126238
trim 725        57E pnt
10B              J100
If I understand the date coding right, and (if) Gm scheduling followed the calendar year, this would put the build at Friday Oct 10, 1968  the 100th car on the line...?  Only trying to get it right so I can verify the rest of the cars date codes on the normal wear parts.. ::) How long did the 69 model year run, and is this an early 69 or late.. way to many questions... :o

It *may* have been the 100th car on the 10th PRODUCTIOn day rather than the 10th calendar day...

And we have no idea what that is, if I`m correct...?

More than that. That's when it was initially scheduled - it could have been built a day or two off.

The production date listed on the NCRS reports - anyone know what that date is based on, and is it an actual date or approximate like the LOS Fisher Body scheduling code?

My understanding is that the production date shown on the NCRS letter is the date GM officially considered the vehicle as completed, and invoiced the ordering dealer. It's often several days (at least) before the date the vehicle was actually collected for shipment, but the logistics of transporting so many vehicles away from the assembly plants explains the delay. Not sure there is a clear definition of when the car is considered 'complete' (especially if it triggered an invoice to the dealer, there may have been a 'substantially complete' build stage) but would think it reasonable to expect it was when the vehicle left the production line and passed quality control.
