1969 SS tire pressure sticker

I've done some research to determine that "DW" 3961733 should be the correct tire pressure decal for a 1969 SS Camaro. To throw a fly into the ointment a friends 05C 69 ss396 Camaro has "AO" sticker. Original to that car with only 12k original miles, un-restored. Can somebody please tell me what I should have for a 08/28/1969 built 69 ss396? Thank you, Joe

From a brief check, it seems 'AO' should be a 1970 tire pressure sticker code....?

DW is correct for a SS - the problem is I haven't seen any of the 69 Tire pressure labels done on the correct substrate - which happens to be the same as the ORIGINAL AIR CLEANER LABELS, which no pne seems to use for them either...
metallized wet strength kraft - MUCH MORE COMMONLY USED FOR BEER BOTTLE LABELS.
Bright silver Coors labels etc

I ordered one from ECS when I ordered my windshield. It's "DW". So if that is correct I will use it. I was confused by what a 12k original owner's car had on it. The one I ordered from ECS also appears to made on the "beer bottle" paper. Thanks all...Joe

The tire sticker depended only on the tire size. I don't know the differences between the 3 F70x14 labels.

Why would a '69 Camaro sticker show 'F60-15' as a possibility?   They weren't available or used until the '70 models came out...

the F60-15 Polyglas GT tire debuted on 1970 models in the fall; to my knowledge NO 1969 cars had F60-15 tires (the Polyglas GT Goodyear) was the FIRST of that size to be available (on 1970 models).   If someone has proof of an F60-15 tire being available on ANY 1969 model, I'd sure love to see it - because NO ONE knew it at the time!

The FIRST cars to come from the factory with 60 series tires were:  The 1970 Boss cars, the 1970 Z28, and 1970 Hemi cars.  I special ordered a 1970 Roadrunner with Hemi suspension in order to get the 15 inch wheels and F60-15 Polyglas GT tires in the fall of 1969 and received it between Thanksgiving and Christmas of that year.  I won several bets after receiving that car with people who stated there was no such thing as a '60 series tire and nothing wider than an H-70 was available!

If Chevrolet put out that AO sticker in the fall of 1969 and used it on late '69 Camaro Z28's, then it was in anticipation of the 1970 Z28 (which of course was introduced late).  Are there documented examples of this AO sticker being used on late '69 Z28s?  Did that process begin in May/June (according to the KurtS post on dates of these stickers?).   My 09C Z28 did not have any  tire sticker on it when I purchased it in the mid 70's - although the VIN sticker was, and is still on the door...

The "AO" sticker I posted is attached to a 05A X22 car owned by the original owner until last year. The car was stored 30 years in an a/c enclosed garage with 3 car covers over it. Like I said it has 12k original miles. Look for it at MCACN in 2021...Joe

I'm sure Kurt would've got his info from broadcast sheets or some other original document. I'm not trying to cause an argument. Just trying to get to the bottom of it so I can do the restoration on my car as close as possible to correct for the second time around ..Joe

The '69 Hurst Olds had F60 x 15 Goodyear Polyglas as standard equipment.

I'm sure there is a story there but the best one concerns a July '68 Car and Driver magazine comparison test between a '68 Mustang with a tunnel port 302 and 4-wheel discs vs. a '68 Z/28 with a cross-ram and 4-wheel discs. No one could actually buy cars equipped like that so it was just for fun. The Mustang showed up with F60 x 15 Goodyear tires, a big advantage over the E70 x 15s on the Camaro. No one had ever seen those tires so they called Goodyear. Goodyear initially claimed they didn't exist, then admitted they were still in development and should not have been on the car.

Sam Posey drove the cars at the Lime Rock, CT race track. Despite being street cars well over the SCCA minimum race weight, both would have qualified for the T/A race held there.

I have magazines going back farther than '68, but I'd turned off on C&D and R&T very early due to their predominance of featuring European cars and bashing American cars..

Does anyone have copies of the magazines or ads William mentioned?   I'm not doubting it but I need to 'correct' my memory if there were earlier cars than 1970 models with the Polyglas GT tires.  I spent most of the '69 model year 'pricing' Chevelle SS396's at every dealer I came across.  I finally got them down to a price that could be afforded by a lowly USAF A1C in late June of '69, but when I went to order what I wanted (around 4July), I was told that 30 June was the LAST date they could order a '69 model.  I was told I could order a '70 model, but at that time, the dealers had no information on the looks of the car or the pricing...    so I waited, and when the '70's were introduced, I didn't like the 'bulked up heavy look' of the 70 Chevelles, and a friend of mine suggested I check into Roadrunners - his main point was the availability of the F60-15 tires on 15" rallye wheels (which I'd never heard of at the time); I told him I couldn't afford the extra $700 or so for the Hemi, but he told me I didn't have to..  I just had to order Hemi Suspension ($15 option); I also ordered the 15" rallye because they looked so good ($43 option).  The tires/wheels made my Roadrunner totally unique at that time because no other cars were running them at that time (or so I've thought)..??
