One day before the 1969 Daytona 500, a white with yellow and black striped 1969 Camaro RS/SS 396 convertible was used as the pace car for the Permatex 300 NASCAR Late Model Sportsman event held at the Daytona International Speedway in Daytona Beach, Florida on Saturday, February 22, 1969. This was a support race that featured lesser known drivers piloting mostly older model race cars. The pace car was the same Camaro that was used to pace the 24 Hours of Daytona World Championship International Road Race that took place at the track February 1-2, 1969. The words inside the yellow & black stripe were changed to promote the Permatex 300.
LeeRoy Yarbrough won in his 1966 Ford. Unfortunately, the event is remembered for the horrific fatal accident involving Don MacTavish on lap 9.
