« on: February 14, 2020, 12:50:18 AM »
Year is buggered up, someone tried to stamp 8 over the 9, but is the part number a restamp?

I would prefer a more overall photo but it’s legit IMHO.  I’m sure others will have their own opinions though.

IMHO once anything has been done to an OE stamp, better to pass on it and keep looking.

I'm curious why alter the date stamp on an otherwise legit looking part number?

Ignorance Mike.  I will have to disagree with passing on the alt.  If the price is below average due to the modifying of the stamp then I’d buy it.  Anyone that knows stamps or follows the dates (known date btw) will know this is legit.  Besides the stamp is hidden when installed anyways.  There’s my $0.02

bought this at a local swap meet from a guy that sold his Z, not sure if this  alternator was from his Z and never made it back on the car before he sold it or he just bought it as an extra. I bought the alternator thinking that it was original but nowadays I see many unrestored questionable ones on Ebay. So I wanted to post it here for analysis and scrutiny .

Yes, 9B19 is a known and desirable date. Yes you can see the year digit was a 9 before the crude overstamp. Was it a 9 from the factory? Quite possibly. But equally, impossible to say for sure from those pictures. What it was once, is not what it is now, hence why in my opinion, I would pass - or at least not assign any more value than just another 37A alternator core.

assuming the 1100837 number is original , i had plans on using it on my '69 2D L78 camaro (N6042XX). I'm satisfied original date code to alternator is 9B19 and not 8B19 and not 0B19. Until i find a nice unrestored one ,one i have will do. I did pay more for it 'than just another 37A alternator core'. Thanks for all responses.

I would use it as well... FWIW 837's were not made in Feb of 1968.
