M21 partial vin help

Hello all, I bought a m21 transmission for the guts, and was hoping to sell the case. I am trying to figure out what vehicle this was originally installed in, but the numbers dont make sense. the partial vin reads 019B413475. From what I have read this should break down to   }01{ body style  }9{ year  }B{ as baltimore assembly }413475{ as sequential body number. I know no camaros were ever built in baltimore, but does someone know what a 01 body syle would be?

1 is Chevrolet.
In 69, Baltimore made Chevelles.

Yes. There is that extra zero at the start. Baltimore did a few odd things like that over the years.

Seems to be real. VIN fits for a late July built car.

So we know its not a camaro being its a baltimore car, however even taking away the 0, the 1 dosent match up with any known codes I can find for chevy or b.o.p any clues?

Ignore the 0. It means nothing. Like Kurt stated above, the 1 stands for the Chevrolet division and the VIN is for a 1969 Chevelle (or El Camino) assembled at the Baltimore plant.

Ok, I see where I am confused. I was under the impression it was the last 8 of the vin. It actually is gm division code then last seven ov vin. My bad

It's fairly rare because on the 1969 Chevelle (and El Camino), the M21 was only available on the L34 (396/350), L78 (396/375) and COPO (427/425)! I have no idea how many of these were made, but it can't be that many. You might want to post it over on the TEAM CHEVELLE site and see if the car's still around.

13,786 Chevelles received the M21 in the 1969 model year.

So out of a total production of 522,761 Chevelle, El Camino and station wagons manufactured in 1969, that means that just over 2.6 percent came with the M21. As I stated, RARE!

346,406 of those 522,761 would have been able to get an M21.

I think I will join up on one of the chevelle sites and post this thing up. I would like to see if it can be reunited with its car. Sad thing is the upper case ears have been welded, however it looks to be a decent repair. The ears and holes are nice and squared up and surfaces are flat. Guy had this thing mounted up in a 56 chevy, with a truck bellhousing, so the nosecones was never centered. Good thing was it actually has the m21 gearset in it. Only bad gear is the reverse gear. Found the correct number case on ebay for 300.00, date code is close.

No, I'm just saying that out of the 522,761 Chevelles, Malibus, El Caminos Nomad station wagons, Greenbrier station wagons, Concours station wagons and Concours Estates station wagons built in 1969, only 13,786 came with the M21, so it's rare. I have no breakdown of Chevelles, Malibus, El Caminos or station wagons that came with the L34, L78 or COPO engines.

Nope, no breakdown by model, just shows M21 went in L34/L78, that’s it......
