« on: March 20, 2007, 08:06:19 PM »
What is the torque specification for torquing the front rotor hub to the rotor itself?

(10D produced Los built 69 z)

Thank you

Are the 2 piece still available? Looks like they could be tough to take apart on a 38 year old car.

Paul are you sure about that torque spec? Where did you find it? Seems kind of loose to me.

I have the original two piece rotors that I'm cleaning up and removing all the rust from. So, I
want to torque the hub to the proper specs when I'm done.

So, if 60lbs is correct, let me know.

Ed, I got the spec straight out of the 1969 Chevrolet Chassis Service Manual.  I just double checked the spec in the 1968 Chevrolet Chassis Service Manual, it's the same = 60 ft. lbs.  Ed, each of the five bolts also has a heavy duty lock washer on it.  I guess if you are still concerned, you could put loctite on each bolt for extra insurance.  Also when I have done these in the past, I have tightened them down in a star pattern (like a wheel) in four rounds:
1) 30 ft. lbs.
2) 45 ft. lbs.
3) 60 ft. lbs.
4) double check at 60 ft. lbs.

But that is just me.   ;)

Good question - there isn't a single word in either the 1969 Chassis Service or Chassis Overhaul Manuals about 2-piece rotors, nor is there a torque spec for them.

Ed & John -

- 1969 Chassis Service Manual
- - Page 3-7 (FRONT SUSPENSION)
- - - see REPAIR PROCEDURES
- - - - see FRONT WHEEL HUB
- - - - - see Replacement of Wheel Hub Bolts

This info is on the same page in the 1968 Chassis Service Manual for those who don't have a 1969 manual.

Boy, that's a stupid place to put it!! No wonder I couldn't find it. Like a moron I was looking in the BRAKES section!

 :o

I should have known better than to check the section on Brakes for a Brake related question!

Thanks Paul.

No problem Ed!  I'm glad to help the experts for a change.

Also for those who are working on the hub/disc assembly, I neglected to mention you need to index (scribe) the hub to the disc before separating these two parts.  This is because the hub and disc are balanced as an assembly from the factory.  This procedure is also mentioned in the Chassis Service Manual.
