Help with 69 Z11 rear sear bulkhead marking
« on: October 29, 2019, 01:18:31 AM »
I’m currently restoring a 69 Z11. This is a one owner car. I’ve known the car for many years. I knew the owner and bought it from the owners daughter after he passed. It is original drive train and came with documents.

The rear seat area has a XO or a XD on the rear seat bulk head. I showed it to James (firstgenaddict) today. He suggested I post it here. So what is it? I thought it maybe X = houndstooth O = Orange.
What does every one think? Just wondering.
Thanks in advance. Rich

I have a 1969 Z28 that has a similar mark, but mine has X3.  I suspected it was my trim code.

X3 is the shorthand they used on the rear bulkhead to denote an X33 package (Z28 with style trim)...

Well, that is different! They couldn't write X1, since that was used for X-11 :)

I believe X0 has been seen on other Z11s.

Fisher Body did a fine job of controlling and removing engineering build instructions from the assembly plants. Virtually nothing has been found.

As noted, other pacers have had XO on them. It doesn't fit the pattern of truncating the X code, as Kevin noted.

Couldn't use a 1 because that would have indicated black painted rockers.

As far as I can remember we have deduced that the X1 X3 R3 etc are believed to be Fisher paint shop codes, thus (XO) most likely they represented the following.
X= black interior paint
O= Orange Stripes

We have many cars in the database with an X code and a non-black interior; many with a 1 and body color rockers even with style trim group.

The O could have stood for additional instructions or special paint instructions just as the O did in 1967. -

0 was probably just internally understood to be a Z11/Z10. It's the only "non-X" tag code so it wouldn't complicated. :)

Another non-standard feature on Z10/Z11 was D96 fender striping. Some very early production Z/28s w/Z21/Z22 probably had them but they were quickly discontinued.
