Real 1969 z28 ? X33
« on: September 28, 2019, 07:43:20 AM »
Looking to buy this 1968 Z28 camaro but I have read a lot of these cars are faked.

My first concern is the partial vin being stamped on the back of the block by the casting numbers? Isnt this usually on the front engine pad by the build date?

I have several pictures but don't see where I can add them to this post

rear block casting # is 3956618 and what seems weird is the partial vin stamp is to the left of these numbers

For part of the model year, some '69 V8 engines had the partial VIN stamped into the rough casting area near/above the oil filter boss rather than the front pad.  It's pretty difficult to read the partial VIN when on the rough casting area.

The vin stamping seems like the 1 doesn't line up to the rest of the partial vin? Any chance its re stamped?

Chevrolet primarily used 3 different block castings for the 4" bore [302, 350] small-block over the 1969 model year: 3932386, 3956618, 3970010. Each was used for a certain time frame. I have never seen a May-built DZ engine with a 3956618 casting.

VIN is a very bad re-stamp.

Also would a 04C on the trim tag be to early for a V0508DZ stamp?

The VIN stamp appears to be 19N634823. That VIN was final-assembled on or about April 28, 1969.

Gotta be one of the smoothest castings I have ever seen in the filter area. Deburring and de-flashing guys at the foundry must have taken hours to do that one area - not.

Questionable to say the least. JMO -

Actually after looking at the vin stamping it is a brighter shade of orange as it appears on that one spot that got repainted? Maybe just me mind scaring me away from this car.
