1967 firewall and tulip panel seam sealer

I need to seal the seams on the firewall and tulip panels on my 67 and wanted to see if anyone has instructions or a procedure to applying the sealers. I searched the form and found some information on the types of materials to use, but not the procedure to make it look close to factory. The seams have been cleaned and epoxy primed already.

Also, is there a way to make sure the satin paint is the correct sheen once painted (30% or 60% satin). I have to paint the top of the dash also.

TCP Global will mix the correct dash paint and even put it in spray cans if you prefer, it matches the factory texture very close.

I use 3M beige two part automix for the seam across the firewall and the seam across the dash top front lip along with the tail pan seams, the trunk to rear glass filler panel, and the rain gutter edges, use a acid brush to tool it like original.
I use 3M black two part automix for the cowl "bags" to the door hinge panel, the seam across the toe boards to the main floor boards, the main floor to the trunk pan. . ALSO use a chip or acid brush to tool as original.

I also use NVH dampening foam if the quarters have been replaced- 4274
For the seams along the rocker to floor pans - originally a tar like pumpable sealer - I use evercoat rubberized undercoating (I buy it by the gallon) which is made for a schultz gun -- HOWEVER I pour a bead into the seams or brush it heavy in the seam...

For decades, I've been using SEM heavy, thin bodied or self leveling sealers depending on the application. 3M is no better but costs the most.  SEM has a sprayable seam sealer. You'll have to buy the applicator gun for 2K and sprayable sealers.  For dashtops, SEM has a texture coating in aerosol or quarts. Gun spraying the texture coating offers greater control of the appearance. Or spend the most money and buy the texture coating from an on-line restoration supplier.

I appreciate all the information. The previous owner had already cleaned all the old sealers off and primed the firewall.

Sometimes you see thick stuff randomly sprayed inside the quarter panel sides, inside the trunk. Any idea what is used there?

Yes reduce drumming.
IT is undercoating in the trunk side of the quarters.



This is one I did 5-6 years ago, IMHO it looks ok, the build is pretty good but the application is not "technically correct"  This was using a modified scultz gun shooting a mix of evercoat undercoating, tar roofing sealer, and mineral spirits.

FWIW LORD FUSOR makes a sprayable undercoating and a gun for application.

Within the next month I am going to be shooting the 69 COPO I am doing now ~ I am going to make sure that it is as close to "factory" as humanly possible...

Since 1982, every car I've torn apart had different undercoating and seam sealer appearance. I'm doing a 69Z for someone now and the factory body construction is horrible compared to dozens of other cars I've done.  Very few constants on these cars.

FWIW LORD FUSOR makes a sprayable undercoating and a gun for application.

I invested in the Fusor application gun & it lays product  Eps S.E.M tube cartridges very nice.

Sample spray out. Nice thing it also has pump out applicators with a variety of nozzles also.

It is best to apply actual masking to control the stringy overspray.

It is a BEAR to clean!

A buddie used it on his mustang Boss 302 car with fabulous results.

Rocker chip guard also produces quality results. If in the industry for decades, it helps to weed out what works and what does not.
