1969 1100834 alternator fan
« on: July 26, 2019, 09:18:39 PM »
My 03B pace cars 834 alternator is dated 9A16 so, Ive always assumed its original.  The fan on it has the "shark fin" hook.  I've read that this is a high performance feature but, what makes this fan high performance as opposed to the non hooked fan?

My experience is that it is just a fan. Maybe different suppliers? Perhaps Delco Remy employees interchanged the fans when supplies were low?
Regardless, I have 834s with “hook” fans and 837s without “hook” fans ( opposite of what would be expected) and I have vice-versa, the way expected. There seems to be no rhyme or reason. All of my examples are virgin unrebuilt originals. So, to me, these hook fans are just fans.

Thanks Bentley.  It just made me wonder if the hooked fan was somehow a better fan but, what you said makes the most sense to me.  Thanks again for the reply.

You'd have to see the parts list for the alternator - maybe there was multiple fan #'s, allowing substitution.
