VIN versus Cowl Tag

Hi all,
I was considering looking at a 67 RS/SS and  requested the tag details from the owner before I committed to travel to view the car in person. From the pics I received the VIN is 124377N212188 and the cowl tag says 11E build date. This does not appear right to me - seeking some expert opinion on this. Car has obviously been restored at some point and appears to have a non-original drive train. 10 bolt diff and a very odd looking engine stamp -misaligned characters in the engine code and suffix is MT (cowl tag says powerglide), and from the photo partial VIN is not visible.
So my questions are;
Is it possible that the tags are correct together (as in time-frame)?
Should engine codes always be aligned ie gang stamped? (although in this case I think the suffix is wrong for this car anyway).

That VIN is for an early May built car.

At least one of the tags is not original to that car.

 That VIN is close to my '67 and the trim tag is 05B. See if the seller can send a picture of the 'hidden VIN' stamped at the top of the cowl. It may be under the wiper cowl panel though but that should help with identifying which tag was switched.

The MT engine application code would indicate a manual and AIR/smog car, of which all were assembled at the LOS or Van Nuys plant in 67.  My hunch is a trim tag swap to make the car more that it was originally.

Those old posts certainly make interesting reading. So looks like someone has had a go at re-stamping the decked (327) block, or has had another engine swap along the way.

And yes, it was advertised as a genuine matching numbers RS/SS.
