1968 SS Radio Speakers

I'm sure I am making this more difficult than it actually is, and have looked into it without finding definite answers/guidelines.  But can someone guide me to what front and rear speakers my 1968 SS Camaro would have had from the factory?  And would there have been one or two rear speakers?  Attached are pictures of the radio.

First, that's a 67 AM/FM mono radio, not a 68 (The 68 was 7303241).

But IF you had a 68, the speaker (P/N 7298001) would have been located under the dash.

A rear speaker would have been installed if the car came with RPO U80, and there would have been 4 speakers (two speakers in the kick panels and an additional two in the rear deck) if the car had come with RPO U79 Stereo Multiplex.

Thanks for your help.  I'm restoring the car and that is one of several radios I had to choose from, and it was the closest date wise.  The kick panels do not have cutouts for speakers, so I'm assuming that four speakers is not an option for me.  From what you're saying, it sounds like one speaker in the front and one speaker in the back might be my best option for decent sound in the car (and also an option that might have come from the factory).

It is, but you'll have to find the fader control (P/N 7304601), harness (P/N 7290858), wiring (P/N 2988134), rear speaker (P/N 7300614), grille (P/N 7296871) and mounting hardware. Those aren't easy to come by and are usually expensive when you DO find stuff that's working and not all hacked up.

As for "decent" sound, you'll never get that out of the factory setup!! It was crappy at best.

Also, if you're restoring the car for "judging", that radio won't pass. The 68 AM/FM had "AM" and "FM" lettering in the lens (See below).

My plan is to take the car to local car shows, not really to be judged, but I am trying to get it as close to factory as possible.  I've had several people tell me to go with a modern radio that "looks" like a factory one, but the modern radios I have found don't look at all like the real ones.

They don't, and they're, well, I won't say trash, but they're not that good. What I did was I finally got my original AM/FM restored (approx $700.00), but I also installed a Custom Autosound hidden radio under the back seat. it comes with a wireless remote so it's undetectable. It's not a cheap system, but it does sound good. Unlike the original AM/FM mono!

You can read about it HERE, but I don't know if the Custom Autosound SRMS radio I got is still available or not. The link on ebay doesn't show the pictures anymore, but HERE'S A LINK to it on Amazon (currently unavailable).

I'm sure there are other "hidden radio" options, so it's something you might want to think about.

I recall looking on ebay and the setup that Ed bought now incorporates bluetooth.
