First gen Z/28 registry
« on: March 12, 2019, 01:54:50 PM »
Does the CRG consider its 'research database' a registry for all first gen Camaro models?   I'm surprised there isn't one for the first gen Z/28.

My understanding is Jerry Macneish maintains The Official 1967 Camaro Z/28 Registry. However is doesn't appear to be publicly accessible.  So basically this is just personal or business owned collection of data, likely a dang good one.   http://www.z28camaro.com/registry.html

Another is this 1968 Z/28 National Registry http://1968z28.com/ owned by Larry Eakin  The web site Mission states 'As the registry grows, we expect the information to help muscle car enthusiasts to more fully appreciate the 1968 Z/28 as one of the purist production based high performance cars of the 20th century.'   Well, the information is not shared so how is that helpful?

I've not located anything specific for the 1969 Z's.  So what's the deal?  There are other registries like sYc for the Yenko and ZL1.  This one can be viewed without even logging into the forum.  The 'vettes and Chevelle's are also good examples.   All even publish the full VIN.

Something is in works as far as a publicly viewable registry.  So I would say hang in there and be patient.   ;)

Rob,

A database (especially a public database) for 1969 Z28s would be difficult. Consider the numbers...

1969 COPO ZL1 package - 69
Yenko Camaros - several hundred
1967 Z28s - 602
1968 Z28s - 7,199
1969 Z28s - 20,302 (that's 9.8 percent of 1969 production, so about 1 in 10 were Z28s)
Bryon / 1968 Camaro SS 396 coupe - now old school 468 big block
1967 Camaro RS/SS 396 coupe L35/M40 - 4 generation family project
Looking for 68 Camaro with body # NOR 181016

Any registry has issues with being maintained and the data being vetted. There have been L89 registries and 68 Z registries - gone.  And if the registry is just starting now, 50 years later, there's a lot of data / history that's happened and wasn't captured.
Does being in a 69 Z registry automatically make the car a 69 Z?

That's the age old question isn't it, what is a real Z and one that's not.  The ZL-1 registry has some questionable cars what with full re-bodies etc.  Lots of asterisks I suppose.
