How to pack a battery for shipment

This is valuable info that aligns itself with our hobby.
 I have received several Chevrolet batteries the last 4 or 5 years by mail that have been damaged beyond repair. All of them were unusable. Some in boxes with virtually NO packing came broken in pieces. Since I have the common sense of several men... I thought I would post a few pictures on what I consider the proper way to package a battery for shipment. I have sent out 10 batteries this way, ALL arrived in perfect condition. Ask Chick and Dave how their Y55's arrived from 2,650 miles away. I also sent 13 THOUSAND dollars in toys to a collector in Texas. ALL arrived in perfect shape. 40 years of shipping, NO damage claims... Danny

Danny, isn't having Fragile and 'handle with care' stickers all over the package... *almost* the same thing to UPS handlers as 'Throw Me / Drop Me / Abuse Me' Signs?       J/K   but I've had ALL my package problems with UPS!

Danny is certainly correct about 'proper packaging being key'...  Cushioned inside an inner box, and that box cushioned inside a 'hard surface' outer box is a pretty safe means ...  and if you can SHAKE the package, you should not hear anything moving inside!  I've never shipped an automotive battery but shipped many valuable items (one off prototype systems) over the years while working - I always packaged stuff I developed MYSELF! 

A few years ago I sold an NOS chambered exhaust system that I'd bought in 1976 to another member here (from Alabama to Washington state).  (Crating it in a large reinforced cardboard box inside a wooden crate for shipping it).   When it was confirmed that it had arrived safely, the buyer asked me if my work job had been shipping nuclear equipment!...     I told him No, but I'd had 'experience' with UPS before!

Great job, Danny. I'm of the same mind as you and Gary - I've shipped more than a few expensive parts (like a NOS deck lid to some guy in New York via UPS - custom built crate, triple packed. Lost money on the shipping charges, but I wanted it perfect on arrival). I figure people want the same care as I expect shippers to do for me, but unfortunately there are a lot of people out there that could care less. Your packaging protocol is exemplary.

I've shipped a lot of parts UPS, always pack considering it will be abused on the way to the customer. I've never had a complaint about condition on arrival to this point, and I don't want to start now.

The price was at about $1,700, then $1,350 and now down to current price of $1,100. I am always looking for fun... Danny

That's exactly how I package anything which can be damaged if it were dropped.
 wrapped up in paper and foam then boxed then the box goes inside another foam lined box...
