Lots to see and do at Monterey week - over 500 vintage race cars - largest HTA entry,
several car auctions and concours + automobilia show, Pebble Beach concours with 17 mile
tour of those cars.

Bring lots of cash! You might end up staying in Gilroy!
I have been 9 times starting in 85.

Look into your local regional 'Open Track' club events. Might not be as exciting and overwhelming as Laguna Seca or Sonoma, but just as fun!

Other than HTA, there are other vintage racing organizations that are recognized by SCCA and which may hosts races within SCCA programs...

The following organizations’ licenses are currently approved by SCCA for competition in Vintage/Historic
events:
1. Classic Sports Racing Group (CSRG)
2. Historic Sportscar Racing (HSR)
3. Society of Vintage Racing Enthusiasts (SOVREN)
4. Sportscar Vintage Racing Association (SVRA)
5. Vintage Auto Racing Association (VARA)
6. Vintage Motorsports Council (VMC) and VMC member organizations
7. Vintage Driver’s Club of America (VDCA)

Maybe HTA is more a west coast organization?   I saw vintage TA type racing at Road Atlanta a few years ago and the sponsoring vintage organization wasn't HTA, but I don't recall which one it was...?  Maybe someone more versed in these organizations / events can give us a tutorial?  :)

Historic Trans-Am is definitely a west coast organization that will occasionally venture out to other tracks such as Sebring, Road America, Watkins Glen and Mt. Tremblant.  HTA has the bulk of the cars with real Trans-Am history.  There are some cars that do have Trans-Am history and run in a different organization primarily because the owner may live on the east coast or in the midwest. Those cars are usually prepared to a looser set of rules than the HTA cars such as more cubic inches, dry sump oiling systems, modern gauges, full aluminum interiors, etc.

Do you know if any of these organizations exist here out west as well? I would be interested in going to some of these more lower profile events. The Monterey and Sonoma events are not just the most interesting or well organized but also a little far away from me, and they kinda price me out once you factor in staying for a few days and that every interesting event costs extra(quite a bit sometimes).

You can see more lower profile events at Buttonwillow Raceway Park or Thunderhill Raceway Park and they both have websites where you can see their schedule of events.

Jon I remember you being a Norther CA guy, what's Thunderhill like as far as spectator vantage points. Is it a nice place to hang out?
I watched a friend at Buttonwillow one time in 2012 and liked it, and it's close to me.

I was there in November 1992 for the Tribute to Roger Penske and 40th Anniversary of Corvette celebration. I went to the fundraiser dinner and roast of Roger Penske which was to help raise funds for the Corvette Museum. I still have the T-shirt and poster but may have sold the program.
