OK guys, I bought a new unfinished grill for my 68 z/28 and want to know what color to paint it?

I think that grille should be silver as with a standard Camaro.  At least that is the color scheme on the 69's.

Look up Chick's 68 Z thread.  He shows the correct color and yes the inner portion of the grille is silver but the outer portion is satin black.

Would this work?
Plastic Prep: SEM 39863 Plastic Adhesion Promoter Aerosol - 14.8 oz
Semi gloss black surround: SEM 39143 Trim Black Aerosol - 15 oz.: Touchup Paint
ARGENT Silver Center: Krylon metallic paint dull aluminum k01403007

Chicks thread indicates they use a "GRAY" not disclose formula as a base prep?

Did you purchase a repop grill, can you comment on fit and finish?

Here’s a survivor grille to assist with the black paint line.

This is an original 68 grille and note the plastic color is a tan or cream looking color. If you look back close to the first picture you can see that tan/cream color at some of the horizontal bars as the paint did not fully cover all areas. I would call the painted grille color more of a mix between silver and gray. Note the rivet heads for the bracket that was riveted to each end of the grille. I might or should have the formula of what we color matched if needed.

This was our NOS grille and note this 1983 (date on box) service replacement was a dark gray.

After painting it with a color matched paint to match originals!

After riveting brackets to grille!

Grille as we were installing!
