Huggar Orange '69 Z/28 Low Miles
« on: October 26, 2018, 04:33:24 AM »
This is for all the HO paint guys!! JUST found out this car was for sale. Car is about 30 minutes from me. Guy's name is Jeff. I met him a while back at a Cars & Coffee. He had Jerry M inspect it about 9 years ago. He really took the time to make this car right and correct just about EVERY issue Jerry noted. I am going down to see it hopefully Saturday. Danny

I don't see it mentioned in Jerry's report, but shouldn't the car have white stripes?

Very nice set of docs. If you started with a complete basket case you would be deeper in than the asking price.

Good docs and nice car... I'd suspect the price is 'pretty close to fair'....?

Jerry's report [May 2009] makes no mention at all of an original window sticker.

Sorry meant to say, shouldn't the car have black stripes?
Also I think the car has been listed before.

As far as price, if the stripes are the wrong color, than I think it is over priced because of the cost involved to get those correct.

I think for ebay the price may be high, but if in a different venue, like Barret Jackson, than I could see a sale price of 82k.

Well I just got back from seeing this car. It is a very nice paint job done in 1992. It has been jammed, trunk [painted and stickers replaced and the cowl overspray duplicated in white out to the front edge of the cowl as stock. Trunk lock assembly showing original overspray. Looking down the sides it is near perfect. $1900 engine fresh-up receipt also in '92. Second gear blew and also at that time the trans was rebuilt. Under hood is very nice original. Embossed fuel pump, original htr. hoses. I found ONE pinch clamp that was rounded. No other issues that I could see. Fuel line not smooth and modern. Original hood stamped in the corner, looks like the # 19. Original paint on hinges, inner fenders, hood latches upper and lower assemblies. Engine fired RIGHT UP with one pump to the floor and jumped to 1800. Then a kick down to idle after a minute and runs good. ALL GM door fuzzies, trunk gasket, carpet and dash replaced in '92. Bought at the dealership. The dealership mentioned this was the end of the stuff for his car, so he also bought a left fender, JUST because it had a couple dings in it. Muffler is smashed in on the bottom pretty good. They must have ran over or backed over something. Gas tank was also replaced. Could have been from the same incident since they are so close to each other. The shocks are Koni and painted the color of the car. This is a really nice car that is ready to enjoy. Throw a set of E-70 Speedways on it and you are ready to go. Also looked at all the paper work. Note that he said he had the Window Sticker made and is and was not trying to pass it on as original. He tells everyone who calls. Won't take much less money than listed price, and frankly I can see why. That's my review. If I had the money and the room, I would buy it... Danny

So to be correct you would need to redo the stripes in black, and have the rockers painted.

While it sounds like a gone through car as far the running gear goes, that paint work being incorrect would at least subtract 5k from the price in my eyes.
I would say 65-70k would be a more appropriate price range for this nice Z.

Was there documentation saying it should have BLACK stripes?   I recall seeing several Orange Z28s with white stripes and black interior when they were new...  so I don't think it's wrong unless the color is conflicting with documentation???

Seems like this had been discussed prior. I thought you needed a white interior, or hounds tooth, to get white stripes? or did that just factor into vinyl top colors?
Way back when I had asked Jerry M. about a 69 Garnet red Z, (red interior)with white stripes, and he told me unless special ordered it would have black stripes. I figured the same would be true for hugger orange.

William mentioned to me stripes are good. It depends on vinyl top. So no subtraction. Couple other things.. No 3908326 valve at drivers frame rail. Radiator pet cock open wings facing the wrong way during rebuild changed to repro. Rad has metal tag. Jack dated correct, looks to be original spare. Underside in nice condition except muffler crunch. I am sure I missed some things, but as far as I can tell, this car needs NOTHING but tires for the full visual. You wanna get it judged than look for a dated gas tank and spiral shocks, and shoot a new deck lid without spoiler. LOW miles pulls in the extra scratch as far as I am concerned. It's 34,348 as of today! This car is STRAIGHT! I studied both sides and bent down slowly to follow the light and I saw NO flaws. VERY light flawing on a couple stripes. JUST like the factory did. He even paid $150 for a correct flat handle dip stick for a LOS car of this period. And remember, this is an original one of about 3,000 ZL2 hood cars and one of about 15% of Z/28's built at LOS plant. That's kinda cool in and of itself. There are plenty of cars online right now that we have no way of knowing if they even need engine/trans/rear axle work. He also just changed the oil. And air cleaner is original flat base with factory bend crinkles.

That's about all I can think of, I didn't take notes. He called Jerry M. and talked to him about this car, and Jerry remembered this exact car. Was hoping a member would purchase as it looks like it may be going to Australia. That's the only full price offer at this time... Danny

Well if it goes to austrialia then it can join Tims 69Z that is also a LA car.

Did he have any pictures from when it was new? or back in the day?

(still needs the rockers painted at a minimum)
