Someone must have wanted it pretty bad. I had no idea someone would go through that much trouble for a 76 Vette. Not exactly a marque year. I am guessing it is in canada by now.
Likely that car will stay together. Wouldn't seem like it would be worth much parted out, right?

On a side note, but related to this type of story, I'd be interested in hearing some of the steps owners have taken to protect their cars when out driving them (i.e. chain on hood so it can't be popped open, lock on steering wheel, some type of kill switch hidden, etc.)

Back in the 80's I owned a 77 Nova, sooped up of course. Fun car, but it had an aftermarket equalizer on it and it was also wired to the ignition. It had a built in kill switch on the underside of the equalizer that I'd turn on when I felt I needed it. I always thought it was a great idea as it was hidden well and would keep some quick minded thief from taking my car.

Anyway, just interested in hearing what seasoned owners do to protect their rides. Thanks

While I have had cars with kill switches, chains on the hood, and even got "the club" as a christmas gift, now a days a flat bed tow truck will haul off any car with those simple means of deterring a thief.
I have not tried low-jack. While it will not prevent a theft, maybe you have a really good chance at a quick recovery?

I drive most of my vehicles often. I think the key is just being smart where you park, and checking in on your car (every 20-30 minutes for me, keeps me sane)

While I kidded about why this vette was stolen, I really don't care if it was a $1000 car. It pisses me off when people steal others property that they worked hard for or may have received as a gift. I had my first car stolen. It sucked at the time, since it was a car I worked for years saving up for, purchased and then restored with my uncle. If someone wants your car bad enough, almost no amount of security is going to prevent it from getting stolen.

That being said, just think about where your car is getting parked and for how long. Especially large car shows. Or overnight parking for a car event. That seems like a hot bed for thieves to show up with a trailer or flatbed, and make off with someones pride and joy.

In the end you only live once, so you gotta drive em.

Just my 2 cents

Although I have not tried it yet. I have more than one phone for work reasons and I have thought about using the find my iPhone app by leaving one on and hidden in the car. Lo Jack is kind of costly and they want to install it themselves. With the iPhone app you can check every so often to see if it moved just to ease your mind.

You know they make these little fobs, that you can put on your key ring or any other kind of object:

I have wondered if this would put out a strong enough signal to hide on your car, like under the dash pad, or somewhere where it would have a good signal. I f the car got stolen, could you use this app to locate your car? Only down side is they work on a small battery.

So to use this little device as a 'hidden tracker', you'd have to pay a cell phone service a monthly? fee (I don't know what the cheapest means to implement the phone would be.. Does anyone know?

You'd also have to wire in a means to keep it charged from the auto battery...  as no one would want to remove it and 'charge it' every few days... (and some of us would never *remember* to do that!).. :)

I didn’t think the key fobs you needed to pay a monthly fee, but I have not looked into it. Even if you had a small fee, I would think it would still be cheaper than low jack. But would it be as Effective?
I would think lo jack would be have its own power source?
