Z sticker on glove box
« on: October 04, 2018, 11:19:44 PM »
I have finally found the box that had my glove box door protected. disregard the black paint on the out side, some where in its life someone rattle canned the whole interior with black semi gloss, my interior is gold and appears greenish more than gold. My sticker is very brittle and been exposed to the elements. When I first got the car the glove box was in the open position with no glass and the hinge was rusted so bad the door wouldnt close. I have soaked the hinge with penetrating oil to the point I can move the hinge in its full range. the sticker and a couple of places on the door itseld had mold growing I very very carefully wiped away all I could but it left black stains. I am considering placing a this piece of plexi glass on the whole door back to preserve the sticker?  thoughts?

Good for you, glad you found it. Now where is my carb and air cleaner? I bought the correct carb for my car and had it rebuilt by Daytona. It's SOMEWHERE in my shop still in the plastic bag from them.  I found the box with the right hubcaps, the '63 SS caps. I am running out places to look and the rest of the engine is done,in the frame, painted and ready to fire.

I have a NOS hood latch that had surface rust all over plus the sticker still on it.  I soaked it overnight in Evaporust, then dunked it in water several times and lastly sprayed it with Gibbs oil to keep it from re-rusting.  It looks pretty much like brand new and did not affect the sticker.

Suggest your restore the cover in the same manner "CHICK" did on his butter nut car, Mask about 3/4" beyond the decal & restore the lid using the same std body working technics. I am in the same boat as you are, my second option was to cut a 1/8" thick plexi round and mount it on top of the original in place decal to protect and preserve it.

Great find, Another = part of your puzzle!

Paper towels wet with white vinegar and laid on the rust will get rid of it in about a day. Then do as mentioned above.

I would get some good pics first and do as others suggest. My trans am had a " this vehicle has been modified by Hurst Performance" in the drivers door jamb which was falling off with a hand written date. I printed several copies on my HP for show after paint. I have the original in my doc folder. It is a small thing but sparks interest in a collector like me.

It's beveled so I'm not sure if which measurement you want but the floor of the holder is 2-9/32 ?

This is what I am thinking. It would be better thinner but (Maybe?)
2.25" Diameter/.25" Thick Round Acrylic Display Block

The door restoration of the door would wait till the rest of the dash would be worked & possibly after any cert of the car.  Or I keep an eye out for a spare from a swap meet
