Does this plate look legit, the numbers look crooked
« on: September 28, 2018, 07:25:18 PM »
A gentleman on Facebook has a 68 Camaro he bought it from a guy and the guys uncle whom passed away was supposedly the original owner.  He's trying to get any information, the car is badged as SS RS and has the correct lights, rear is 12 bolt rear with MU 350.  Car has been repainted and no SS hood on it.  He's not trying to sell only figure out if it's real SS and RS car.

There is a reason that 68's don't bring the money that 67's and 69's bring. The trim tags don't tell you anything. Just that it is a V8, hardtop. You have to look at the tell tale signs, the 12 bolt is one. The vin should be stamped on the engine pad. The hood would be another thing, but the car could have been in an accident and not replaced.

I agree but I'm just curious if the tag looks odd the way it is stamped

There is a reason 1968 Camaro's are the best of the first generation and that is because no one fakes the trim tags and gets burned buying a fake car.
Nothing on that tag to tell you if it had any options besides the Island Teal paint and Houndstooth Black deluxe interior. Nice combo by the way.

The plates are stamped 2 times. I can't tell from your picture which stamping is crooked, or if it is the whole tag.

Some people 'fake' stamps purely to change the color or options for their car!   and that goes way beyond Camaros and Z28s...

The car was repainted, but it does have black hounds tooth interior and rear fold down seat.

68s are kind of like a fine wine or aged Scotch, not always appreciated by everyone. :)

Tag seems ok at first glance, I will try to take a closer look later or tomorrow.
