Faster with the money (or commitment) is all that matters!   If you get a verbal deal with someone, GET IT ON A CONTRACT  (ie.  a Bill of Sale, or 'Agreement to Purchase', almost anything that commits both parties and is signed by both parties...  Probably many (most?) of us have been burned a time or two in our lives by NOT doing that and hopefully we learned our lesson.

PS.  I've passed up more money before by 'sticking to my word' and would do so again, but some people (maybe most?) would not do so.

And I have it go the other way. Sold a car took $100 deposit and the guy never came back. I called and he rudely told me he was eating dinner. Never heard from him again. Ever since you give me ALL the money and I give you ALL the product, no favors.

NAh, Doug I would take $100 bucks for free all day long. They can hang up on me all they like...Its worth the $100. BUT their $100 would only hold it for a day.

If your 'contract' includes a deposit and *time* to pay the full amount and collect the car, then make sure you put those terms into your contract document as well.  ie.   Buyer has 'n' days from the date of this contract to provide remainder of payment at which time he can collect the item.   In the event that buyer does not conform to this term, buyer will lose his deposit with no obligation by the seller!'

Yep, have to look at the sellers point of view as well.  Verbal agreements over the phone don't mean much.  Can't tell you how many times I've had calls, "I'll buy it"    and you wait, and wait, and wait, and no one shows up, all kinds of excuses.  Or they try to negotiate over the phone before they have even seen what they are buying, funny.

Honestly I don't waste much time on people like that.  Money talks, and I'm up front about it.  If you're serious and want to send a deposit, that works fine.     Asking me to hold something over the phone for days or weeks until you can come see it, with no money down, not likely.  Just have to be honest about it and tell the buyer, can't hold it without a deposit, if you want it and there are other interested parties, better hurry up.

if I were in the market, I would pay $40,000 all day long for a matching number mostly unmolesred 68 Z. Cars like that are few and far between.

As for buying the car, money talks. If you are serious about buying the car, make it a point to get a commitment from the buyer and get him a deposit to seal the deal.

I personally think 68 Z’s are going to keep seeing a increase in value! 67 and 68 were true factory built race cars. I personally like a 69 Z’s more, but they got very vanilla compared to the previous years...

I get it, I have had SO many people on CL tell me they are coming, or on their way and never show. But when you are a man of your word it will work just fine for the seller. Especially if he agrees to the deal. Why agree and then sell the car out from under me. Go in order and wait for my call. I understand there was no monetary deal made. If he kept his word, I was going to PayPal a deposit while we were on the phone. So he could see it come in. Again, I know how it works... but this was WRONG. You here me saying I am pretty sure I want it but let me sleep on it and call you in the morning. You CLEARLY here him say during the negotiations .. Ok, Now if you decide you don't want the car, please call me and let me know. Then I say of course, I'm not going to not call ya. And on and on.. I guess I can post the 56 minutes of audio online for everyone to listen to on my you tube channel. Listen to that, and then tell me if I was at fault. A deal is a deal if you are a MAN!.. Danny

I don't disagree necessarily, but '69's are 'vanilla' maybe but with chocolate syrup, bananas, whipped cream, and a cherry on top!

I was trying to say that  67/68 had optional headers/cowl plenum in the trunk, optional 4:56/4:88 gears available and TI ignition. Very few had power steering and many options.

You're right; the '67 was produced for racers, not the public at large, and yet while the basic performance parts actually improved (4-bolt mains, availability of disk brake rears, etc) from year to year, so did the 'appeal' items - those items that would appeal to a broad customer base other than 'racers' (interior appts, exterior trim, etc)...
