327 lower engine alternator bracket
« on: February 19, 2007, 03:33:44 AM »
I hope somebody can help me on this one, I have a 69 camaro convertible with a 327 engine that came from a 68 vette I have the alternator mounted on the left side of the engine I have the upper and lower bracket but I am missing the lower one that goes on the back of the alternator,I had look everywhere  for this bracket and can`t seen to find one, Now I have exhaust manifolds so I guess it would attach to the bolt and goes to the alternator some how, I do notice that all the other engines have a hole on the block my engine does`nt  and that is why I am having problem finding this bracket, can anybody recommend something for me.

Remember, they changed the water pumps in '69 and went to the long pump with the alternator on the right side of the engine. The Vette engine will have the short pump and no holes in the heads for the right-side mounting. The left-side mount does, indeed, bolt to the manifold, but all the pulleys and brackets are different on a '69. To switch to the left-side mounting, you'll need '68 and back pulleys and brackets. Hope this helps.

Attached pictures are my '69 327 on the engine stand ready to go back into the car.  One key is having the correct heads (#3927185) which have the correct accessory mounting holes.  The lower rear bracket bolts between the back of the alternator and the accessory mounting hole in the head.  The front and rear lower brackets are both secured to the alternator with the same long bolt.  The arm on the back of the lower rear bracket (which you can just barely see) bolts to the back of the alternator.  Lower front bracket bolts to the front of the alternator and to the water pump.

Thank you sir that will help me a lot, I meant to say that my alternator is located on the right side and not on the left side I do have the front upper and lower bracket is the one in the back that I need , you say that it attaches to the bolt on the water pump, and not on the exhaust manifold like I thought, now that I know what I am looking for , it will help me, thank you again.
