The block is a 3955272 the pad is stamped T0728CJI vin# stamped by the oil filter 19N693255

...weird some sites say 396 others say its a 402

Interesting that a end of July engine found its way into a early October car? But it was the end of the year.

396? vs 402?--Basically all the same animal. Engine started out in 1965 as a 396. Earned a reputation as a street brawler and at the track too. Marketing already established and the numbers had a good "ring" to it is why it still was referred to as a 396 even though it grew to 402 starting with the 70 model year. To confuse matters more, that engine was referred to as a 400 when ordered in a pickup after 1970. Marketing = 396, Parts counter = 402.  A 396 has a 4.094 In. bore, whereas engineers decided to bore the engine .031 in 70 resulting in a 4.125 In. bore, hence 402. Nothing else changed. A rose by any other name, is still a rose (Shakespeare)

There was a lot of confusion in the early 70s.

The 400 small block and 402 big block were both available in pickups.
