Hurst Shifter

Before I break it, is there a trick to getting the pressed-in round style Hurst shifter handle out of the body? There appears to be a metal shim on each side of the handle where it fits into the lever on the shifter body.

I've got an 11C 69 with a 660 M-22. The Hurst that came in the car is a newer aftermarket shifter. The one I'm asking about is something I picked up a few years ago with some other Camaro parts. When I tried to mount it, the 2 holes in the body would not line up with anything on the 9 hole bracket I have. It does mount up with a 5 hole cast aluminum bracket which says HURST 2223.  The shifter body has a number 3138 on the front. It has the name on the side with 9 7 D6 below it.  Also, there is no offset in the part of the shifter that holds the handle.

Sounds like you have a Camaro Hurst shifter.  If so, there is a repro Camaro linkage kit that is very nice to mount this shifter.  Regarding the removal of the handle, stick a feeler gauge down between the shim and the handle and pull the handle out.  That's it.  If it does not come out, use a small punch and hammer to drive it out.

If the shifter does not have the big offset neck it could be a GTO Hurst.
(9 7D6) I believe is a 1969 GTO number. The stick should have a number on it to ID it but the number is on the pressed in stick flange so has to be removed to see it.

the number 3138 on the front is a 4 digit Hurst part number used for the shifter body stamping only and was used on many OEM Hurst shifters.

Got the handle out (thanks Jerry) and the number on it is 4178. There are also some numbers and letters on the rods and levers if that would be of any help.

4178 is the 1967 GTO stick bucket seat with or without console

Thanks Joe.   Do you know how the  9 7 D6 on the side of the body decodes? I'll probably end up selling it and I should probably know exactly what it is and what years and models it will work on.

hard to say without seeing it.  most of the Hurst shifters I see have mismatched parts where OEM is mixed with aftermarket Hurst parts or OEM parts from another year.
Your mount plate HURST 2223 sounds like an aftermarket Hurst part.
 You can find it's application in the Hurst pdf files on the Mr Gasket site.
 Hurst OEM used 3 different style bushings between 1964-1970 so the bushing style can date it also.
my opinion is -best way to sell it is ebay
put good pictures showing front view, side view, and bushings and list all the numbers and list the stick as 67 GTO

Hurst was just sold to B&M in CA this month.  I don't see this as being a good thing.  They also bought McLeod clutches too.
