Y77 Bat.
« on: February 11, 2018, 01:54:56 PM »
Is there a reproduction Y77 battery on the market?  I assume there is not since I searched Chris site and the web and could only find "R" repro batteries. Thanks. FYI. I took my Z out for her maiden voyage yesterday. Wow, great sound and lots of fun!  It feels good bringing a car back from the dead.

Not that I've seen.  No Y55 reverse polarity for the earlier 69Z's either.  Can't even get a correct battery topper for these, lol.

I actually contacted a couple companies about the Y55, and asked if they would reproduce one. I was told that there is just not enough demand to retool and make them.. I always refer to them as reverse post. Reverse polarity to me, never sounded right, sounds like a positive ground thing, or similar. Like you are changing something. JMHO... The polarity isn't being changed, just the posts are being switched, right? Still a 12 volt negative ground. Just happens to be moved to the other side. Danny

Correct on that Danny. The posts are just reversed. Reversing the polarity is changing a positive ground system to a negative ground system. I've done this quite a few times on some British cars, early Jaguar XK's and Land Rover Series trucks as such. Actually really easy and not much involved.

That's awesome Danzo. Yep, new garage, but I don't plan to put anything around the car. I told my wife I am building a garage, she said we don't need a garage...that's when I told her I bought the car. Needless to say I am now buying carpet and painting the house.

That's how it is referred around here.  Actually the parts book at the local store even has it printed as reverse polarity.  Not that it matters, I don't think they care about technicalities, only that it is understood.  Hard battery to find even in a modern battery.  Costco doesn't even carry it in their Interstate line.  I had to get an off brand name from Napa and even that had to be ordered in.

Yep, I'm doing a Y55 with a R59 battery topper.  Takes a little work to reverse the terminal designations (reverse polarity, darn there's that word again :))  I'll have to respray it then some detail paint work etc..  and make my own Y55 stickers, but it will look the part.

I have had 5 Y55's over the years. A couple early ones, and a couple service replacements without the "ENERGIZER" embossed on the top. Chick got one of my best ones, if not THE best one, also mike, another member here. I picked one up a while back in very nice NOS condition. It is a service replacement.
