67 Convertible SS/RS horn.
« on: January 16, 2018, 02:23:09 AM »
My 67 Vert SS/RS has the single horn on the center support in front of the radiator.   Is this single horn a high or low note horn or something else?    The current horn sounds weak, sickly, and very mono-tone.

So is it a high or low note horn?    Thanks,   ~~joe

You can try WD40 or similar spray into the horn and let it soak a while. I have done this several times to restore the sound.

Thanks for the replays.   I've read the CRG article on horns and it doesn't specifically say if the single horn is a high note or a low note.   I will pull my horn off and try the WD-40 trick.

Does anybody know why GM only put one horn on RS Convertables?

Thnx,  ~~joe

They didn't. ALL Camaros came with two horns. A high note and a low note. (A 3rd note horn was optional in 1967 and 1968, but only on the Coupe.)

If you only have one horn, the other's been removed. You'll need to look at the part number stamped in the horn itself to see which one you still have.

I was going to suggest for you to go back and READ the section referenced again.  I just did and it makes perfect sense to me (and answers your question)...  The first sentence stated "As standard equipment, all 1967-1969 Camaros had two aluminum diecast horns made by Delco-Remy."   AND it provides information (PN's, stamping, etc) which lets you identify WHICH horn you have.  DO the work man!  (PS.  and please post a followup and let us know what you find out).. :)
