So I saw this ad for a 69Z on ebay, and thought ok at first, nice patina, driver type car. But the more I looked over the pics, the more I suspected this never was a Z car. Rear end is nowhere close to the right date, the shifter location looks all wrong to me, besides it is the wrong assembly unit. The last line of the auction says it has a tilt column, and made me think it may have been a shift on the column, that someone converted to floor shift.

The amazing thing is this car is bid up to 32k, reserve not met?

(Has a aftermarket cross ram, but come on, what am I missing here?)

Thanks Joe. Its funny all three guys on the Yenko site seem to think it is real. Hopefully they can clue me in to what they are seeing, because unless this guy found the broadcast sheet when he did the trunk floor replacement, I am just not seeing it.

A personal on site inspection is always needed on cars like this.  Yes, axle is too late for the car - so it's not original.  None of the drivetrain seems to be original, so there you go.

The car is worth what it could be parted out for plus whatever value you put on the story that goes with the car.

Austin I think they saw the rare 302 on the dash, that  must be the proof  ;)

Maybe it's my computer screen, but looks like a 5 leaf spring pack to me.

I blew the pic up and saw that as well Larry. I am tempted to ask the seller, why he thinks it is an original Z. "because it has the emblems!" is likely the thinking here.   :P

I think the whole story is BS. LOOKS like a clean body with nice parts. Some guys are really getting good at applying patina.

Unbelievable right?
I have emailed the seller a couple of times. Can't get a vin on the trans, (which it could be on the top of the trans). But i also asked other than the emblems, what evidence is there that this is a real Z, no answer.

If you look at the bidding it is suspect. They bidding with 0 feedback?

I would guess this car will come back up on ebay. maybe multiple times with the way they have been shill bidding it up.

39K did not hit the reserve. Offenhauser sure looks good sitting on it, I don't car if it's aftermarket: always makes you look at it twice.

Makes documents a plus, VanNuys or Norwood either way. That's why we have 40,000 1969 Z's loose on the street.

Steve
