67 Camaro Trunk / Header Panel Emblem
« on: October 20, 2017, 11:16:56 PM »
Looking to see if someone with a true survivor 67 Camaro and or loose original assembly line emblems can confirm or deny if the lower edge of the rectangle small Camaro emblem is painted black. I have a loose emblem that I took off my 67 Z at the time of taking apart for restoration and it appears to be painted black and is nicely done and appears original. I don't know if it was factory painted or someone painted it. Thanxs in advance for your assistance. Dave

I have some originals, none of which have the black like what you have described.

The emblems used on '69 Camaros did use the black paint around the periphery of the cars emblems...  makes sense to me that they did this on all of them to make the actual emblem 'stand out'...?

I would disagree with that statement.

Well Ed, ...  disagreement is the root of all enlightening discussion...  :)      I have my original emblems from my Z28, as well as NOS emblems still in boxes that I purchased in the 70's (that I will probably never use), I'd be glad to photograph all of them if it might change your mind?

I have not noted that on any NOS emblems I have had including the emblem like Dave asked about used on 67's.

Attached are  few photos of originals emblems on, and from, my 69 Z28...  All of these emblems show the 'blackout' around the periphery...

and a set of original Z28 emblems on ebay also show the blackout ...
https://www.ebay.com/itm/69-1969-Camaro-GM-Z-28-Emblems-Original-Set-Used-/172937936523?hash=item2843e77e8b:g:4PIAAOSwWGFZ4Yig&vxp=mtr

and on my NOS emblems, it is even more pronounced (ie.. not dirty)...  but I can't say about '67 or 68 emblems, although the image posted by the OP shows similar blackout to that on these '69 emblems.

We're not talking about the Z28 or RS emblems. This thread is in regards to the header and trunk "Camaro by Chevrolet" or "Chevrolet Camaro" emblems. Those have no black paint around the edges.

My Camaro emblems do not show evidence of 'black'...   :)    I guess I didn't realize the discussion was so specific...  and why do you think the 'Camaro emblems' would be treated differently than other emblems on the car?  OR... is the fact that the Camaro emblems being on the top surfaces of the car (header and deck lid) possibly mean that the sun and washings removed the 'black' on those much more quickly than it did on the emblems on the side/back/front of the car??

The RS and Z emblems were designed with flat horizontal surfaces to be painted black. The Camaro emblems are not designed that way.
